Making changes to your life
Making changes to your life

To go from where you are to where you need to be requires change. That is:
Change of mindset
Change of behaviour
Change of routine
It is all a matter of stepping out of your comfort zone. This is not always as easy as people think
because of different circumstances. You do not know why people stay in a situation which is not
good for them, but self confidence and insecurity are the two main ones.
The biggest barrier to change is the fear of criticism. This prevents people from stepping out of their
comfort zone and trying new things. People do say things about any changes they see in those closest
to them and not all of it is complimentary.
There can be any number of reasons why someone wants you to remain the same; one of these is
insecurity. You doing something with your life will make others feel uneasy. They want you to stay
as you are because it makes them feel better about their own insecurities.
If someone is dealing with the same issues as you are, but you are doing something about it and they are
not then it is not going to do anything for their own self-esteem.
Losing weight or getting fit are two popular changes people like to make. They are popular new years
resolutions which people like to make. It is important to frame a goal in such a way as to make it more
specific. A goal which is vague and generic is not going to motivate you, but one which says what
needs to be achieved and has a time line for it’s completion will give you more motivation.
Vague Goal Specific Goal
Get fit Complete a 5k fun run by 31 January
Lose Weight Lose 10 Ibs by 31 January
Eat more Healthily Cut out all sugar in my tea/coffee by 31 January
Get a job Apply for at least 10 jobs in the hospitality industry by 31/01
Change makes people feel uncomfortable and it is not just the person who is seeking to do something
different who gets a bit nervous. Close family members will criticize and question the motives of their
rebellious family member. Comments such as “He’s gone all queer” and other derogatory statements
will crop up.
That girl that is teased about being a little overweight is likely to be mocked and criticized by family
members if she goes on a weight loss diet, especially if some of them do not have a model-like figure
either.
Why?
Because, the one who is making changes is also making others feel uncomfortable. If he or she can be
just like them it makes them feel better about themselves. This is just showing their insecurity.
No one can live your life for you so just go ahead and live it.
All of the best
