Basic Steps to developing a healthy lifestyle.

Basic Steps to developing a healthy lifestyle.

Written by R. A. Stewart

There are three key parts to developing a healthy lifestyle. You cannot have one without the other two.

If one of these key areas is the weak link then it will undermine and affect the other two. It is imperative

to pay close attention to each key factor and make adjustments as you see fit. As they say, “If you stick

with the status quo then nothing changes.”  With that being said, let's take a look at these three keys to

living your best healthy lifestyle and making the most of your abilities.

1. Mindset

This is an important issue to deal with. If you are not in the right frame of mind for training then all of

your efforts to get fit will be all in vain. You may start out with good intentions, and your training is

going well, then you have a bad day at the office, or a domestic issue at home and may not feel like

training at all. It is important to carry on regardless of the circumstances you are in if you have set

yourself a goal. Having friends who will support you on this journey will encourage and motivate you.

Participating in the weekly 5k park runs on Saturday morning will motivate and encourage you because

you will be joined by hundreds of others who share your interests.

2, Diet

A poor diet will undermine your efforts to get fit. In order for you to get the most out of your fitness

regime it is important to eat healthy foods and cut out unhealthy ones. Replacing unhealthy food choices

with healthy ones is the second step towards a healthy lifestyle. Buying junk food because it is cheaper

is a false economy. You do not get much nutrition value for your money. You do not need to go cold

turkey and make drastic changes all at once. If you made one change to your dietary habit per week

then that is 52 changes which you have made in a year. It takes 21 days for a habit to be formed so by

committing to each change for three weeks you have formed a new habit.

3, Exercise

Exercise is the third component of a healthy lifestyle. Lack of exercise will undermine the benefits of a

good diet. Whatever form your chosen exercise takes, it will do you the world of good. Even someone

with a physical disability can get involved in some form of exercise. We just need to see the Paralympics

and how the athletes have overcame their particular disability to perform at the highest level. A negative

person will find an excuse, a positive person will find a way.

Participating in sport is taking your exercise to the next level. There are clubs in your community which

you could join. Most cities around the world run their own 5k Park run on a Saturday morning. If you

are not up to running that distance then you could start training for it.

It is important to run at your own pace and try not to compete with someone who may be several levels

above you. Just run your race and when you are confident that you have reached a certain level of fitness

that will enable you to compete with others who were previously at a higher level than you were then by

all means go for it.

It is all about taking one step at a time, which will eventually lead to achieving your fitness goals which

is good for your self-esteem.
