Jogging for fun
Jogging for fun
Written by R. A. Stewart
You do not have to be a competitive athlete to enjoy running. Just a few jogs around the block per week
can significantly improve your well-being over a period of time. It is just a matter of doing whatever
works for you.
There is no one shoe size which fits everyone’s personal circumstances.
Once you reach a certain level of fitness then you may decide to take part in your local 5k park run.
The job/walk method of training is ideal for beginners.
With this system you choose various landmarks, say, lamp posts and jog to the first lamp post, walk the
next, jog to the next, then walk to the next one.
After a week you jog to two lamp posts for each one which you walk to and so on.
Increasing the ratio of lamp posts you jog to for every one you walk to.
Once you have been jogging for several weeks you may be confident enough to jog the entire distance
without stopping for a walk.
Whether it is one, mile, two miles, or three miles, the distance does not matter so long as it is your
personal goal.
Always remember that your fitness goals are a work in progress. You may not be where you want to be but be glad that you are not still where you used to be.
There are no short cuts to achieving your best fitness if you have lived an inactive life for years. You have got to make the effort by putting in the work but in the long run it will all be worth it in terms of self esteem and fitness.
Consistency is key; there is no point in doing all of your running on the one day, Saturday, for example, and not train on the other six days because what will happen is that you will be stiff and sore on Sundays then by the time the following Saturday has arrived the benefit of the previous Saturday’s run will have been lost.
Participating in a variety of fitness activities will give your life a bit of variety. Cycling, Salsa dancing, swimming, and walking are other activities which are good for your well-being.
Eating the right foods is important!
Why?
Because a poor diet will undermine your best of intentions. The food you eat is stored energy which is the fuel which you need for your body to operate at its maximum capacity.
The result of eating the wrong foods is that you will get tired more easily.
